The Plough, Coldharbour, DORKING, RH5 6HD [Map]
A great pub just East of Leith Hill, the highest point in the area. You'll find the pub along Coldharbour Lane which is on the road to Leith Hill from Dorking. You can also catch the bus there from Guildford or Dorking if you fancy a pint and don't fancy driving. For starters they brew their own beer. They set up their own brewery in 1996 in the barn around the back of the pub, naming it the 'Leith Hill' brewery using hops that they grow on site for some of their brews. The 'Crooked Furrow' was great. They offer a good range of beers from other breweries including several local brewers bringing the total of real ales on offer at any one time to about eight. They've also got local farm ciders and country wines on offer. The pub has two beamed bars with a real mix of people. They've a pool table and darts board in a room at the back and picnic tables out the front by the road and around the back in the garden. We had a wander round but couldn't find the hops that they're apparently growing. We did find a fishpond though. The menu looked pretty good too and included rabbit and smoky bacon pie! All in all a great pub to visit if you are walking in the area, and also a good place to visit on a cold, winters night with its warm, friendly atmosphere.
